Get Immediate Top Quality Urgent Care Flu Treatment at One Medical Center
A UTI often occurs from bacteria entering into any part of your urinary system, including the bladder, urethra, ureters, and kidneys. However, viruses, parasites, and fungi can also cause UTIs. Leaving them untreated can lead to complications, including recurrent infections and kidney damage. At One Medical Center, we offer comprehensive medical care for UTIs ensuring quick relief from symptoms while preventing further complications.
You can develop a UTI from:
Sexual contact (can push bacteria up your urethra)
Using a catheter to empty the bladder (you may catch an infection through it)
Holding urine for an extended period (can cause bacteria to grow, causing an infection)
Hormonal changes during menopause
Escherichia coli (E. coli)
Bacteria entering from the urinary tract to the urethra.
Using a diaphragm for birth control (it can hold urine, thus encouraging bacteria to grow)
Common symptoms of UTI are:
Bloody or cloudy urine
Pain or burning sensation when urinating
Increased urgency to urinate
Fever
Feeling consistent fatigue
Pain in the lower abdomen
We will first review your medical history and symptoms and then recommend the following procedures to diagnose a UTI:
Urine Sample and Culture - A urine sample is the first test done to examine the concentration, appearance, and number of healthy white blood cells, red blood cells, and excessive protein. A urine culture may be done to identify the specific type of bacteria causing the infection.
Renal Ultrasound - Uses sound waves to clearly show the picture of the kidney on a video screen. This test determines the kidney’s size and shape and detects a kidney stone, cyst, mass, or other abnormalities.
Cystoscopy (Cystourethroscopy) - A cystoscope (a flexible tube and viewing device) is inserted via the urethra to examine the urinary tract and the bladder for the presence of stones or tumors.
Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) - You are given an IV injection containing a contrast dye. Following that, X-rays of your ureter, kidney, and bladder will be taken. This test assesses the renal blood flow and detects tumors, kidney stones, and other abnormalities.
As we have an on-site lab, all the previously mentioned tests can be completed in-house, and you can receive your test results quickly. Our experts will review your report to proceed with the treatment. We may recommend a urine culture if bacteria are present in your urine sample. A urine culture test determines the types of bacteria present in your urine. It can take 1-3 days to get the results, so in the meantime, we would initiate the treatment with antibiotics.
